The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

The Good:

Jacob and I have decided to hire a guy to do the taping and mudding of our master suite. While Jacob and his dad were going to do it initially, my grandpa gave me the name of a guy he knew that did good drywall work. A while back we had already looked into getting it professionally done, but the price tag made our bank account cry and din’t think about it much until a couple days ago. With my grandpa’s guy I figured I might as well see what he has to say so he came over and checked everything out. After looking at everything, he let me know what he’d charge for the whole thing and I was blown away by it! His bid was half that of what we had looked into- so Jacob and I went for it! Mark, our official new drywall guy, is going to start on the drywall finishing next week!

Another bit of good news- we got another load to the dump! My grandpa dropped off his trailer on Saturday and I hauled you-know-what to get it as full as possible that day after my dad had left (Jacob was at a training and therefore not available). I got it mostly filled, with the exception of some really heavy stuff I could never lift even if I took steroids. I also hadn’t tackled the demo of the shed. (Okay, kind of a lie- I attempted to destroy the shed, but the shed defeated me.) So on Sunday Jacob helped me lift the heavy stuff and on Monday he demo’d the green shed that was starting to mold and rot away (hence the reason for demoing). It’s pretty weird looking at that spot on the driveway now- all empty. And it makes me feel like I could fall off even if I am nowhere near that corner for some reason. Either way though, it feels good to have all that junk gone.

Also, my dad and I ALMOST finished all the drywall- we just ran out of sheets big enough to finish up the laundry and one little spot in the bathroom.

One last good- a plumber is coming out today to do the rough-in work of our toilet, shower, and bathtub! We are getting so close to being ready to have our tile guy come in.

The Bad:

Due to family health stuff, our personal electrician and my father-in-law had to make a spur-of-the-moment trip to Louisiana and it looks like he’ll be gone for 5 weeks. Now it’s not “The Bad” because we won’t have him to help, but simply because it’s not so good when a family member is sick. Jacob’s grandpa (he calls him PawPaw) had heart surgery on Thursday (it went very well), so Randy went there to help him in the healing process.

The Ugly:

Okay this is really nothing new, it’s just that this ramp is so ugly and terrible! But pretty soon my grandpa will commence the death of the ramp via chainsaws and an excavator- yay!

  1. The worry wart wants to know what you’re gonna put at the end of your driveway to prevent driving off the end?!?!

    • My dad came up with a good solution! We can drill in anchor bolts on the back side of that part of the driveway and attach posts to those bolts and build a fence off of them. And trust me, when I drove up on the driveway this morning I was worrying about driving off the end!
