Getting Things Done

Last weekend went so great! And it was a good thing we had three days to work on things, because we got invited to our friend’s mom’s 60th birthday celebration in Stinson Beach on Sunday. It was a beautiful day and we had a ton of fun. It was so nice to take a day off! Even though we missed one day of work we still powered through this weekend and got a lot done.

A big accomplishment related to this past three-day weekend was that I finished eradicating the ivy from the front part of our house. While there are definitely some shoots still left standing, it is gone for the most part! I am going to tackle all the little randoms this coming weekend and probably every weekend until we get some jute and lay it down over the area to protect it from erosion. The plan is to lay down the jute after my grandpa is done with the retaining wall, because whatever we do now could get destroyed in the retaining wall process.

My dad also finished up a project we started last year- putting in the final posts underneath our house for foundation purposes. It looks great!

Also on Monday Jacob and I started two more projects. (I know, we start so many- we can’t help ourselves!) I built the little platform that our new wood stove will be placed on (I did everything but put the piece of OSB down because Jacob wouldn’t let me operate the table saw by myself- a good idea I think!), and Jacob and Nick (best friend and Best Man to Jacob) started tearing off the section of roof that we will be re-doing this summer.

The final thing that Jacob and I did this weekend was purchase the material for our window trim in our bedroom and bathroom. We went to this salvage yard in Petaluma called Heritage Salvage and bought some beautiful pieces of old barn flooring that we are going to rip to make our trim! The wood is gorgeous.

All in all, we had a very productive weekend.

PS: Here is a preview of what our drywall guy is working on and almost done with!!!
