As Jacob and I bask in the glow of having a real bedroom for the first time since moving into our house… we realize we are nowhere near done and need to keep working! So over the course of last week and this past weekend, we continue to do more work.
One thing that both Jacob and I have been wanting to do since moving into our house was deal with the carpet in our office (and previously had been our bedroom until a little over a week ago!). Because we had been living in the office and had our bed, dresser, and other things along the floor, we decided to do nothing with the carpet until we were moved out of there. Since we now have moved out of there (!), one morning last week after Jacob had left for work but before I’d even had my breakfast (the joys of summer vacation!) I tore out all of the carpet and the padding underneath.
Getting that grimy, dusty, stained and overall gross carpet (that was brand new when we moved in, but white and therefore very bad for orange muddy construction zones) was invigorating. It was just so easy. So many things turn out to be far more difficult when renovating a home, the fact that this carpet demo was so quick and almost effortless really was awesome.
As a part of moving into our bedroom, we also needed to move into the closet! Jacob and I were at first just going to hang a rod on one side and buy custom closet organizers. But then I was looking on the Home Depot website and saw some wire closet organizers and decided to try that out and see what it’d look like. The results? Fabulous! Our closet looks so good and we have never been so organized with our clothing.
Another project we did was also in the office. We demolished our old closet! Since we completely moved into our new one, we figured it was time for the old one to go. We were so surprised with how much more room it gives us in the office- especially since the closet was so tiny.
Since I’m on summer vacation the little projects keep on coming and I have one more to share. Yesterday morning I decided to tackle our basement. It is dirty, messy, disorganized and full of things we don’t need (including stuff that was left over from the previous owner). So I did it! It feels good to have that done.
